Call for Nominations: Editor-in-Chiefs of IEEE Consumer Technology Society Publications

The IEEE Consumer Technology Society (CTSoc) invites nominations for the positions of Editor-in-Chiefs for Transactions on Consumer Electronics (TCE) & Consumer Electronics Magazine (CEM) & CTSoc World for a 2-year term and are renewable for an additional two years. The term of appointment will start on July 1st, 2021. At the time of appointment, the successful applicant must be a member of the IEEE CTSoc. The positions are currently open. The term will be ending on June 30, 2023.

 

IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics

Scope:

The scope of TCE is "The engineering and research aspects of the theory, design, construction, manufacture or end use of mass market electronics, systems, software and services for consumers." It is a quarterly peer-reviewed publication of CTSoc and one of the most important sources of the state-of-the-science on the latest research in the field of Consumer Electronics. Enhanced papers from other IEEE Consumer Technology Society conferences may be submitted at any time.

Qualifications of the nominee:

  1. A member in good standing of the IEEE and IEEE CTSoc.
  2. Prior experience, Editor-in-Chief must have served in an editorial capacity for an archival transactions or journal and open access.
  3. Desirable qualities of the candidates include: established, excellent records of publications in IEEE, solid technical accomplishments, unquestionable leadership, integrity and ethical standards, demonstrable organizational and management skills, and finally, an energetic willingness to continue and vision for moving TCE forward toward visibly higher levels of accomplishment and contributions to the relevant technical and professional community

Responsibilities include:

  1. Management of the day-to-day operations of TCE.
  2. Proposing editorial board members with their biographies. The Publications board reviews each editorial board member and approves the editorial board.
  3. Selecting competent manuscript reviewers, with the help of editorial board members, and managing timely reviews of manuscripts;
  4. The EiC reports to the VP of Publications of IEEE CTSoc and to CTSoc Publications Board.
  5. Serves on and is a voting member of the TCE Editorial Board for the publications. The Board consist of the several Associate Editors.
  6. To serve across the topical scope of the TCE and working with the Associate Editors to achieve the principal objectives and goals of TCE.
  7. To coordinate and cooperate with IEEE CTSoc TCE Editorial Board and other Associate Editors who are technical experts in diverse fields.
  8. Identification of areas that require strengthening.
  9. The EiC is expected to participate in contributing to decisions about publication policies and priorities.
  10. EICs are responsible for working with the TCE Editorial Board to create strategic and long-term plans for the publication they oversee.
  11. To interact with the IEEE CTSoc Boards and Committees.
  12. The Associate Editors provide input on directions and promote publication opportunities.
  13. Adhere to IEEE CTSoc Bylaws, Constitution, Policies & Procedures (https://ctsoc.ieee.org/about/governing-documents.html), as well as to IEEE policies and guidelines regarding Associate Editors responsibilities and duties that can be found in Section 2.4 of IEEE Publication Services and Products Board Operations Manual (2019) currently being updated to Policies and Procedures manual.

Nominations Must Include

  1. Name of nominee and nominator; and IEEE membership of both nominee and nominator.
  2. Member of IEEE CTSoc.
  3. A statement of interest of up to 500 words stating the nominee's vision for the TCE and a brief narrative supporting statement from the nominator.
  4. A brief biography (up to 200 words), including a listing of the candidate's editorial experience.
  5. The nominee's CV.

 

 

IEEE Consumer Electronics Magazine

Scope:

The IEEE Consumer Electronics Magazine (CEM) educates, informs, and entertains Consumer Technology Society members on technology, events, industry news, and general topics relating to consumer Technology and to further serve and support our Members in professional career development through tutorials and raising awareness of engineering tools and technologies. The Magazine features regular sections devoted to standards, patents & IP matters, security & digital content, device tear-downs and reviews of books and engineering software & design tools. The scope of the CEM covers the following areas that are related to “consumer electronics” and other topics. It is a bimonthly peer-reviewed publication of CTSoc and one of the most important sources of the state-of-the-science on the latest research in the field of Consumer Electronics. Enhanced papers from other IEEE Consumer Technology Society conferences may be submitted at any time.

CTSoc World (Digital Magazine

Scope:

The Consumer Technology Society produces monthly CTSoc World which is an electronic newsletter and sent to both society and non-society members promoting activities and publications of the society. The newsletter features calls for papers and announcements of upcoming conferences and events as well as the current table of contents of our flagship Magazine and our Transaction. The newsletter includes multiple hyperlinks to general and reference information about the society.

Qualifications of the nominee:

  1. A member in good standing of the IEEE and IEEE CTSoc.
  2. Prior experience, Editor-in-Chief must have served in an editorial capacity for an archival magazine or journal.
  3. Desirable qualities of the candidates include: established, excellent records of publications in IEEE, solid technical accomplishments, unquestionable leadership, integrity and ethical standards, demonstrable organizational and management skills, and finally, an energetic willingness to continue and vision for moving the CTSoc World forward toward visibly higher levels of accomplishment and contributions to the relevant technical and professional community.

Responsibilities include:

  1. To chair the CTSoc World Editorial Board for the publications. The Board consists of the Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editors and Contributing Editors.
  2. Identifying the Associate Editors and Contributing Editors to serve across the topical scope of the CTSoc World and working with the editors to achieve the principal objectives and goals of CTSoc World.
  3. Associate Editors and Contributing Editors who are technical experts in diverse fields. All articles are reviewed and edited by a technical editor. The editor-in-chief performs the final review prior to publication. 
  4. Management of the day-to-day operations.
  5. Identification of areas that require strengthening.
  6. The EiC reports to the Vice President of IEEE CTSoc Publications and to CTSoc Publications Board.
  7. Serves on and is a voting member of IEEE CTSoc Publications Board.
  8. The EiC is expected to participate in contributing to decisions about publication policies and priorities.
  9. EiC is responsible for working with the CTSoc World Editorial Board to create strategic and long-term plans for the publication they oversee.
  10. To interact with the IEEE CTSoc Board and Committees.
  11. The EiC provides input on directions and promote publication opportunities.
  12.
